Our Mission

Build Now is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping residents rebuild New Orleans greener and smarter . . . now.  We have constructed over 100 homes in the greater New Orleans area and are committed to building elevated, energy-efficient homes in the New Orleans’ architectural style that combine green-building technologies with modern amenities.  As a nonprofit, we provide extensive case management to our clients and walk them through the entire construction process, from obtaining financing and designing their floorplan to building their home with our licensed construction team.  Build Now is truly your one-stop shop for building in New Orleans.

To date, we have built over 120 houses and have 5 more under construction in neighborhoods such as Gentilly, Lakeview, New Orleans East, Uptown, the Lower Ninth Ward and Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes. In Build Now math, this amounts to 125 families (and counting) that we have helped make home ownership a reality.

How Build Now Started

Build Now was founded by William Monaghan, a New Orleans native with over forty years of experience in residential design and construction. In the months after he waded through the waters of Katrina searching for his mother, Mr. Monaghan was disheartened by the struggles of families living in FEMA trailers or far from home, and trying to undertake costly renovations of their home.

He and his daughter, Tess Monaghan, started Build Now to provide families with the resources to rebuild New Orleans so that it could come back stronger than it was before.

Economic Impact

Beyond helping residents, Build Now has had a significant impact on the area’s economy. Our constructed homes are valued at over $15,000,000, and we have paid over $10,000,000 to local laborers and $4,000,000 to local suppliers.
